I recently received this question from a planning bride.

Arina, I desperately need inspiration for favors. I'm having a June wedding and I'm looking for something that will take my guests' breath away. Although I'm not opposed to having a traditional favor, I want people to say "wow". Some ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance -- Stephanie (Chicago, IL)

Don't worry Stephanie, help is here! I understand your need to impress. What bride wouldn't want to capture her guests' attention with something unique and beautiful? I made a request to several of our talented Wedding-Club.com wedding designers to come up with something they consider to be beautiful. I also came up with a few of my own ideas. I hope they inspire you and other brides to create your "special" wedding favor.

First and foremost, I urge you and other brides to read our article entitled Creative Favors; it is a "Favors 101" primer which will help you decide what type of gifts you want to present to your guests. It should also help you come up with a theme that carefully blends the personality and taste of both you and your fiancé.

Who wouldn't adore a beautiful gift box waiting for them at their plate? Elizabeth Scholma, designer and owner of The Envelope, created classic box favors that undoubtedly will delight guests. Box favors, tied in multi-colored ribbons, add an elegant touch to any placesetting. What they contain inside, is up to your imagination!

Adding a fresh pop of color to a summer wedding can be as easy as this collection of lemon, lime, and orange halves. Although they look realistic, they are candles as well. Combine them with lemon topiary centerpieces and a light summer lunch menu, and you will have a perfect look for an afternoon wedding. For some tips on incorporating candles into your wedding, read my article entitled "seeing the light".

Once you've come up with some general ideas, think about what you want your gifts to say. Do you want them to serve a dual purpose? For example, Diann Cage, designer and owner of Mercury Paperworks, created this stunning live thyme placeholder which also serves as a favor. Guests can take the herb home and grow it on their windowsill, always remembering you and your event... wonderful idea!

I've always been a huge fan of candles, especially ones that resemble fruit, flowers, and other elements of nature. Thematic weddings can benefit from candle favors most of all, since candles can be made to represent almost anything. For example, these apple favor candles are a wonderful accent to any garden wedding theme. Apple favors can also be wonderful for Autumn weddings since they are the quintessential Fall fruit.

But wait... did you say you wanted to "wow" your guests? Then you might enjoy doing something ultra creative! Using bold and bright colors always has an incredible impact at any event. Consider going to your favorite party supply store and purchasing items that may not represent the typical wedding palette. Then, go with it!

In this example, we found some gift bags that had a wonderful pattern as well as vibrant colors. This colorful display would attract lots of attention to the favor table. Want to tone down the effect? Simply use more of a solid color from the same palette and randomly place 10 or 20 patterned bags within the favor arrangement. To tie your event together, incorporate the same colors and patterns in other decorative elements of your event. We used vibrant floating gel votives and circular paper lanterns to reflect the palette of the favor bags. Centerpieces of Gerber daisies or even vibrant and whimsical tropical flowers can further enhance this exciting theme.

Of course, simple elegance never goes out of style. Creating beautiful containers for your gifts can not only make them more attractive, but can also add a stunning decorative element to your table setting. The candle favor below is wrapped in an iridescent organza wrap and beautifully tied with a silver tassel. The wrap has a wire sewn into its tip allowing you to sculpt it into unique shapes. The luxurious look it brings to the table is breathtaking.
